In the workshop with Studio Arca

Clay, kilns and the light of the Vieux-Port: a morning with the potters behind our bestselling mugs.

Studio Arca is two potters, one wheel each and a kiln that runs three times a week. The studio sits a few streets from the Vieux-Port in Marseille, and the light coming through the old shop window is, they say, half the reason they took it.

Every piece twice in the kiln

Each bowl and mug is thrown on the wheel, left to dry for a week, fired once, glazed by hand and fired again. The speckles in the glaze come from the iron in the clay itself, rising to the surface in the second firing.

We make the things we want to use every day. If a mug is not good enough for our own breakfast, it does not leave the studio.

Why Nora

"We wanted to sell directly to the people who use our work, without a middleman deciding what sells," they explain. On Nora, they choose their prices, write their own descriptions and pack every order themselves.
